beginners tutorials

i bought playtron to encourage my kid to learn music. I can hook it up but I'm not a musician and don't know how to work any of the available synths and can't find any tutorials anywhere that explain how to set them up so it feels like a useless gimick unless you already know how to play with synths/garage band/ableton etc etc. some simple how to set ups for kids and beginners would be very helpful!
