What are those 6 little solder points/PCB board holes about? etc.

So - there are 6 tiny solder points on the board. Can the be leveraged for some kind of use? Also: is it possible to change the firmware? There are lots of things I'd do with the basic TouchMe idea if instead of MIDI Note-on/Note-offs, I could just get the proximity value as a 14 bit MIDI CC, or even 7 bit. Continuous streams of data are best represented that way. I'm just too lazy to wire up and code my own microcontroller.
